This itinerary is primarily designed for those of our valued customers who plan to visit Rajasthan, a second time, to take in depth stock of it’s colourful rural character.

Your second odyssey begins in Delhi where you shall be staying in boutique South Delhi Guest House, or if you please, in the delightful Imperial Hotel, a landmark of New Delhi.

A short but interesting train travel takes you to Gangapur city, where you shall detrain and proceed to Fort Ramathra. This area is unique as the majority of the villagers are the tribal ‘Gujjars’ or cattle grazers. The men folk are shephards and their women milk cattle. There is plenty to do in Ramthra apart from visiting the village. As the sun goes down, enjoy a mesmerizing sunset sitting on the ramparts of the old fort.

Your next destination, a short drive away, is Sawaimadhopur, where you shall be staying in the wilderness camp of Khem Villas or the delightful Sherbagh luxury tents, known for its fine cuisine, intuitive service and atmosphere.

Bhainsrorgarh, perched up on the high cliff 200 ft above the Chambal river is one of the most charming destinations in Rajasthan. The visit to village of Bhainsrorgarh is a pleasant outing with the entire population welcoming you with folded hands and old-world courtesy!

A trip to rural Rajasthan is incomplete without a visit to a battle-fort and what more than Sardargarh. Writes a classicist, of Sardargarh in c1832, “Whose China & Mirror Halls are still the theme of encomium…defaced by an explosion of powder magazine…which the guns of Holkar aided to diminish. But the castle of Lawah is still one of the finest in Mewar.”

Your next port of call, as you drive over some pleasant countryside hill tracts, is the village of Chanoud. After refreshing yourself enjoy the High-Tea from the fort ramparts as the sun goes down over the western horizon.

At twilight, you shall visit the Krishna Temple in the old ‘Jenana Wing’(erstwhile Ladies section) of the fort and participate in the pooja (obeisance) with the family amidst tinkling of bells and oil lamps being lit!

Finally, head to the 500 year old Samode palace, nestled in the Aravalli Hills, is one of the finest heritage hotels in the state of Rajasthan. The ‘Durbar Hall’ boasts of original frescoes & mirror work done 250 years ago.

Taj Rambagh Palace Jaipur

The itinerary takes you through some of the finest Palace Hotels from the days of princely India. The Maharajas led a very lavish life being connoisseurs of all good things, including decor, fashion, lifestyle, architecture, cuisine and culture. These former palaces have now been restored to the past glory and it is now possible to stay at some of these. The tour provides you with your private guides, chauffeur driven cars and specially designed itinerary for sightseeing, which allows you plenty of time to absorb the ambience of these fabulous palace hotels.

Your travels begin in Mumbai and the subsequent transfer to Taj Mahal Palace hotel. The hotel locates on the Arabian Sea facing the Gateway of India, predating it by some 12 years. The hotel oozes grace, character and excellent ambience. Your sightseeing takes you through the oldest parts of Bombay which includes the Fort area, with evidence of the colonial past.

Fly to Jaipur. For nearly two centuries the Ram Bagh Palace has been an abode of generations of royals. In 1925 the palace became the residence of the swashbuckling, polo-playing maharaja of Jaipur and his beautiful wife, Maharani Gaytri Devi. From your base at this fabulous palace hotel, you shall visit the Fort Amber on the back of a gaily caparisoned elephant, the City Palace and the colourful markets of Jaipur.

At Jodhpur, the Umaid Bhawan Palace, gives you a sense of being in a glorious time warp. Everything is left as it was conceived or has been restored to look no different from the original. All guests are treated like Maharaja’s Guests of Honour, thanks to the Royal Butlers!

A day out at the photogenic Mehran Garh Fort and the delightfully medieval streets of Jodhpur; Shopping and antiquing make their way on the list of the most hardened globetrotter!

At Udaipur, the Taj Lake Palace, is set against the backdrop of Aravalli mountains, on one side, the lake and the City Palace on the other. It’s courtyards, corridors, pavilions and ponds echo with the memories of an era long past gone. The ‘Gangaur’, an antique ceremonial imperial barge recreates the stately splendour of royal cruises. Illuminated by candlelight and steered by oarsmen dressed in resplendent costumes, the Gangaur glides gently across the lake, giving guests a closure view of the onshore palaces, temples or white-washed havelis (town-houses).

The impression of Rajasthan, in many ways, conjure up images of great cities like Jaipur, Udaipur or Jodhpur . If one is willing to gofarther afield in areas less travelled, along with the more popular of its cousins, your travels will be rewarded by a colourful experience, for every stone in these far flung destinations have a story to tell. The ‘Happiness Factor’ somehow is far greater in these virgin, neat and tidy places, with very little evidence of anthropogenic footfall!

There are several destinations on this tour which are truly offbeat, and which possess an intrinsic charm, fast disappearing in the cities. The hotels, which do not cost a fortune to stay in, nonetheless, have fine ambience and all modern facilities.
